    Spey Lite Scandi Head

Introducing our Spey Lite collection, and the Scandi Head. Designed for light double-handed duty and with a relatively long front taper for more delicate deliveries, the Scandi Head is ideal for smaller streams and trout Spey applications. Available in grain weights from 180-420, this two-colored head features a textured, black marker at the end of the head that serves as a visible notification on where to begin your cast. From riffling dries for spring steelhead to swinging streamers for trout, the Spey Lite Scandi Head is Spey on a smaller scale.

    • Short head for quick casts and line control
    • Excellent line for swinging soft hackles, light streamers, and can be used as a dry-fly line with long leaders
    • Longer front taper for lighter, softer presentations
    • Designed for use with a shooting line on shorter two-handed rods and single-handed rods
    • Braided multifilament core; for use in moderate and cold climates

1 review for Spey Lite Scandi

    1. Marc Griffiths

SA Scandi Lite Heads in 150 and 180 grains are awesome for 9 ft 5wt rods. I have used them extensively for the last two years.

I like the 150 grain Scandi Lite for fishing soft hackles and small streamers, and swinging dry flies during the evening caddis hatch on a standard 9 ft 5wt rod. Presentation is excellent and casting is pure delight.

A 9-10 ft tapered mono leader is all that is required for streamers and dry flies, but 5 ft intermediate Trout Polyleader with 4 ft of 4x fluoro tippet is useful for getting soft hackles beneath the surface and dealing with wind.

The 180 grain Scandi Lite is better suited to more powerful 5wt rods and will handle slightly larger streamers, but presentation is not as good with soft hackles and dry flies. Apart from a little more splash when using light flies, the additional weight overpowers the skinning tip, causing it to kick about. This is less of an issue with heavier flies as the additional momentum straightens the tip. A 5 ft Trout intermediate Polyleader produces a smoother cast with the Scandi Lite 180, especially with lighter flies. A floating Polyleader works well for dry flies on this head.

My favourite running line for the Scandi Lite 150 and 180 grain is 25 lb SA flat mono absolute shooting line. It is easy to grip, does not coil or twist after a quick stretch, and it shoots like crazy.
