While the Creek was designed as a specialist line for small water, it has turned out to be an incredibly versatile floating line, that does a lot of things well.

It is short enough to turn over decent sized flies on a 15 ft leader with minimal false casting, long enough to mend effectively out to 50 ft, and used as a shooting head will cast for miles. The long front taper makes for great presentation and pure casting joy – both overhead and Spey.

Because the Creek is such an easy fun line to cast, I would highly recommend it for anyone learning to fly cast, either overhead or Spey.

I can see myself using the Creek Trout for a lot of angling scenarios in New Zealand.

LOVE this line. I have been fishing it on skinny creeks north of driftless region of Wisconsin. 3wt line on my redington classic trout 7’6” rod and Battenkill click and pawl reel. Incredibly versatile and intuitive. Great for roll casting. Presents double nymph indicators, buggers and dries beautifully. Accurate and smooth. I’m also impressed at the distance I can pull off with this setup. Looking to upgrade my 5’9wt with the same line.

This line is a pleasure to fish with. I’m using it in a way that SA likely doesn’t expect, as a singlehanded Skagit line by going up one line size (from 5wt to 6wt). If you look at the head length on their integrated Skagit line and then add a floating tip, you come up with approximately the same overall length. Granted, the Skagit/tip is a little heavier, but you don’t need to deal with the loop-to-loop connection from the head to the tip, which on a trout rod is somewhat difficult due to the small guides. I’m using this on two rods: Hardy Demon 8’6″ 5wt and a Douglas SkyG 9′ 5wt. I’m predominately fishing a streamer in faster water (200 cfs). Doing a snake roll (or a c-spey) to position the line, I’m able to do a nice roll cast and easily make 40′ casts. Not having to do multiple false casts is a joy. If I choose to do a false cast, the line becomes a fantastic shooting line. The placement of the brown/green color marker is spot on for singlehanded Skagit casting. Also, I wasn’t sure about how trout would react to the willow front section, but they are oblivious to it. For me, it’s an outstanding way to see where my line and the fish are in faster-moving water. Oh yeah, the line works as intended on my 6wt Hardy travel rod. I couldn’t be happier. SA, don’t go and discontinue this if it’s not a huge seller. The line is a home run!

You wanna roll-cast? I mean, roll-cast like a boss? On my 7’6″ 3wt, I have been able to easily roll out line to about 40-50 feet. With dynamic rolls or single-hand spey casts you could likely shoot plenty of line. It behaves like a very lite scandi line.

At short distances, 15-30ft overhead casts load up well and with the small taper at the front, dry flies are delicate enough, and it has enough power to deliver larger setups.

The only weakness is when trying to false cast large amounts of line, and shooting said line out to 50-60ft. With a super fast rod, it’s likely possible, but on my medium action the line falls apart; however, that’s not what this line is made for, so I don’t really consider it a weakness, but a trade-off.

Great line for small streams. Great for roll-casting. Heavy enough to deliver larger flies. Highly recommend.
