Sonar Titan 3D Sink 3/5/7

Triple-Density Sinking Fly Line

SAID Icon AST Icon Welded Loops Icon Shooting Texture Icon Sonar Icon

Get this: we took one of our most popular tapers, the Titan, drenched it in various mixtures of tungsten powder, and created a triple-density sinking fly line that will absolutely change the way you fish streamers forever. This is a fully tapered sinking line, so it casts like a floater, but provides a straight-line sinking connection to your streamer. The days of chucking and ducking are finally over. Welcome to the triple-density revolution.

  • Loads quickly and delivers the biggest flies to the furthest targets
  • Excellent turnover due to short, powerful head
  • Triple density construction provides straight-line connection to fly
  • Shooting Texture reduces friction, providing longer casts, easier pick-up, and increased durability
  • For temperate climates
  • Braided multifilament core
  • Sink Rates: Sink 3 = 2.5 – 3.5 ips | Sink 5 = 4.5 – 6.0 ips | Sink 7 =  7.0 – 8.0 ips
  • SA SONAR TITAN WF S3S5S7 X (X = line weight)
Species: Carp, Striper, Bass, Musky, Pike, Salmon, Steelhead, Trout

I fish this line on an 11 wt for musky in still water (I use the intermediate/ sink 2 /sink 4 version for rivers generally).

The good: I really like the way it fishes. The variable sink rate is great and it provides a nice tight connection to the fly regardless of depth. It shoots well and generally casts well (as much as a full sinking line like this can).

The bad: It just didn’t hold up. Used it maybe five times before it straight up snapped when I was casting. I know throwing 12″ articulated flies is going to take a toll and I can handle a line cracking over the course of a season, but a complete failure like that was really disappointing, especially given the price point of a line like this.

Two stars because I really like how it fishes, but it has to hold up better than it did. I’ve been an SA advocate for a long time and generally like their lines, but there are other triple density lines out there now that may hold up better to the rigors of hucking huge musky flies.

Excellent. It makes me better caster than I actually am. Much better. Even with little or hardly any space you can send your pike fly where you need it to land. But it is not just a feel of distance, fish-ability is great,I feel really connected with the fly when the fly is in the water. Some fly lines are great for casting and that is it. This one is excellent both in the air and in the water. I used this (s3/s5/s7) a lot for full 2 pike seasons and recently I replaced all other sink rates I use with sonar Titans on my 10wt setup. It is just step up. Bit loud in the rod, but I like it. Expensive here in EU, but totally worth it. Simply excellent in its field.

I use the 7wt and 8wt S3/S5/S7 and absolutely love it for the lakes in the Lanark and Calabogie Highlands for rainbow and brook trout. I like to fish a three rig ‘washing line’ set up. This line performs very well and I feel that I have increased contact with my flies. I highly recommend it. It’s made a difference in my hook up rate for fish, that is.

Just posting that we need this line available down to 210 grain weight as this would be an ideal Stillwater line in 210 and 240 grains for the fishing I do, particularly during the summer months when the fish are deep over the drop offs. Folks can dump any old sinking line over the side for “dangling”, but for those of us who prefer actively fishing to staring at bobbers, properly tapered sinking lines to cast the larger Stillwater prey like leeches, dragons, damsels, etc are not common! This seems like a much nicer taper to cast long, consistently, than the Sonar Stillwater taper. Anyway, big fan of SA lines.
