Out of the park as they say. I have been using this fly line all year with a lot of days on the water with most of those days on lakes. So, this review will be short. It’s a terrific dry line. It’s hard to imagine the difference between this MPX and all the other dry lines I have used. The design makes this line really easy to cast, like my buddy said it sort of casts itself (I know that sounds goofy but it does). It moves out of the rod so easily. It does have a bit of texture but it’s not a problem at all. I will venture it will cast 20 percent farther with equal effort to other lines. I am really impressed. Had several other fishermen make comments on casting this line.
Anyway, it’s expensive but after spending the moola I am very pleased with it.

This line is made for shooting. If you plan on roll casting even once with it, DO NOT BUY IT. Yes it launches at distance, but the second I lose back-casting range, or it is very windy, I really prefer other lines.

This line won’t roll cast if the world depended on it

This line is pretty amazing. I put it on my 9ft 5wt Sage work horse. It replaced a Rio Gold and it has been better in every way. I love how it casts dries and nymphs. Roll casting is not an issue. Im not sure where problems with other users have come from, but i have roll cast double nymph set ups without issue. This line really does shoot as well. Very happy with the purchase. You get what you pay for.

This line matches perfectly with my Scott Radian 905-4, I had 2 buddies cast it and they both bought the MPX line as well as the Radian. Great versatile line if you don’t want to carry around an extra spool everywhere or another rod. Streamers to dry flies it works great!! I was a big fan of RIo lines but they barely last a season. This MPX line is very durable so I have no problem paying $129 fo it. It’s worth the $$$!!

I have been fly fishing for well over forty years; have not had a fly line cast like Amplitude. This stuff shoots better than any line I have had before. Have been the fly casting instructor at a major outdoor big box retailer for over ten years; at the end of my lesson I make the student face directly into the wind and cast. I make the point, “If you cannot learn to deal with wind, you will not do much fly fishing.” As for roll casting, if that was something I would have to do a lot of, I would consider the Anadro version with its long rear taper.

Textured Amplitude fly lines by Scientific anglers shoot incredibly well. They are also amazingly supple and completely memory free. I do not mind the noise and the texture had no negative effect on my fingers, despite extensive daily use. The extra grip provided by the texture was, in fact, useful when striking and playing fish.

The Amplitude MPX is, in my experience, the ultimate 5wt fly line for making quick and accurate short to medium range casts (20-70 ft) with long leaders and bulky dry flies, even with a weighted nymph attached. Presentation with a 15 ft leader is excellent. The MPX is therefore a brilliant line for sight fishing on New Zealand’s crystal clear bush streams. The buckskin tip is OK, but a camo tip version would be better for this purpose.

The 2 x rods I fish with most are a Sage One and a Winston B111x – both in 5 wt. In my view the Winston is a fishing rod but the One isn’t – its a casting rod….its stiff, fast action and not a whole lot of fun to fish (I tend to limit the use of the One to lakes, big rivers and windy days…but thats about it (the Winston on the other hand is a great rod to fish, but not one I would reach for first when I need to punch out a big cast across a river or into a South Island gale.) But that all changed when I ran a MPX through the One…sure its still a fast action rod, but the MPX makes it a pleasure to fish – it loads up better, shoots better and just fishes better…..I now use it as my ‘6 weight’ outfit. If you have a fast action rod I would highly recommend the MPX (whilst for me the Rio Gold works best in the Winston) – both exceptional rods and exceptional lines

Bought for a 9wt Winston BIII plus Jungle rod throwing big streamers. The line shoots amazingly well, and throws the big flies with ease. Not my first Amplitude line, and will not be my last. MPX is a great taper too.

I’m a long time fan of SA and it’s products. I love their high end lines over the years including my new Amplitude MPX line. A couple of years ago I needed a replacement line quickly for my 6Wt rod and had to purchase the Sa Mastery line because the Amplitude was out of stock. The Mastery line was okay, and frankly a very good line for the price, but if you can afford it, the Amplitude is worth every penny. SA is also a very good company to work with if you have a problem with any of their products. I had a problem with a line a couple of years ago and they replaced it quickly without hassle. I fished many other fly line brands before buying SA fly lines, but now will not purchase anything other than SA products. SA fly lines do not disappoint.

I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed in any SA fly lines I’ve owned in my short 8 years of fly fishing. If you fish unfamiliar water and/or find yourself changing flies and/or rigs often this line will cast them all. I find myself casting an indicator rig with a nymph and a midge trailer or some sort of hopper dropper type rig most of the time. This line casts them with tremendous ease. I have on occasion been in situations where I’ve needed to use a roll cast with this, combining a haul or double haul with the roll works for me (albeit slightly difficult). It probably isn’t ideal for roll casting but I would imagine that most WF lines are not compared to say a dt line?

This line is fantastic! I use it for nymphing. Its perfect for this. I have it on an Echo Carbon XL 5wt. The half size heavy line loads this rod perfectly. The Rod has always been well loved, this line put it higher in my esteem. I highly recommend this line.
