Biography and Fishing Experience

Michael is a trout hunter at heart with a passion for small mountain streams and native brook trout. The streams of the mid-Atlantic region and especially those in the Shenandoah National Park in his home state of Virginia give him endless opportunities for new experiences which he shares with others through magazine articles and seminars.

As a fly fishing instructor for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Outdoor Education Program, Michael uses his 30+ years of angling experience to introduce and teach others the joys of fly fishing. Another way Michael gives back to the sport that he enjoys so much is through being a volunteer for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. In recognition for his contributions to the service men and women of Project Healing Waters, Michael was awarded the PHWFF Patriot Award.

Competition has also played a role in Michael’s fly angling. He is a veteran of the US National Fly Fishing Championships, ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games, ESPN’s Fly Fishing Challenge and the OLN Fly Fishing Masters Qualifiers.
