The Dragontail Shooting Line from Scientific Anglers was originally designed for Spey casting applications. The line is made up of 105 feet of level 0.038 inch floating line that ends in an additional 15 foot section that tapers to 0.075 inch and weighs around 100 grains. With a loop at the end, different heads can be quickly and easily changed depending on the need.

We had the opportunity to chat with Ty Clifton of Colorado about one of his favorite fish to catch on the fly. Ty is a Scientific Anglers Pro Staff member and when he is not guiding the mountain rivers of Colorado, can be found swinging flies for steelhead or casting to tailing carp.

What gets you so excited to catch carp with a fly rod?

Late last fall I got together with Catch Magazine's Todd Moen and Jakob Lund of Salmonfly Syndicate. Our goal, to capture the essence of Pacific Northwest steelheading in a short video. We decided to go out on a limb and explore a small remote unknown drainage. Despite the challenges of moody fish, we ventured into uncharted territory, a fast rising river, cold and extremely wet weather, and we struck gold!! What we found exceeded any of our expectations.

All of us at Scientific Anglers and Ross are pleased to announce that we are Official Sponsors of the Fly Fishing Film Tour (The F3T) for 2013!! Like in years past we've always been a part of the action, and this year is no different. What else do you do in the middle of winter? For most of us it's the time of year many of us get into trouble with the Mrs. /Mr. for spending way too much money on fly tying materials. Why?

A good guide is prepared for anything. This means that their fly box better be well stocked with a wide variety of flies for different conditions and situations. Steelhead may eat anything. Knowing what they are in the mood for on a given day is not easy to know. They are not known for being overly picky eaters, but they can be very stubborn and moody and finding what they want to eat can be challenging. Especially if there aren't many of them around!
