Hello Scientific Anglers and Ross fans! This week we are going to be kicking off a blog series about our team, so you can get to know us better. This week Geoff from our marketing department is going to kick things off.
Hi! I’m Geoff Samples and I work in marketing for Ross and Scientific Anglers. On a typical day in the office I can be found masterminding our social media pages, writing customer service emails and working on advertisements and product packaging. Like everyone in the fly fishing industry I have a passion for fly fishing and enjoying the outdoors. I was raised in a fly fishing family and made my first cast at age 4. Come to think of it, I can probably count the number of times I held a spin rod on two hands! Growing up as a fly fisher it was natural to become a fly fishing guide soon after I could drive. The cold tailwater’s of Utah were my office for ten years before I took my “big boy” job at Ross. I could go on about all of the places I’ve wet a line but I thought I’d tell you 5 things you probably don’t know about me.
PINE TAR - I’m a huge Kansas City sports fan… you laugh, but like my wife says… “He must be loyal if he is a Royals fan”! After I was born my Dad put a George Brett T-shirt on me with a Royals hat and I’ve been “True Blue” ever since.
YOU CAN KISS MY COUNTRY... - I always have music playing and I listed to pretty much everything.. you will typically hear anything from Bob Marley, Phoenix & CCR all the way to Jason Aldean & Trampled by Turtles coming from my orange Clackacraft on any given Musky or Smallmouth float. (Musky particularly like The Black Keys)
MAN’S BEST FRIEND - My wife and I have an awesome 1 year old Yellow Lab named Piper… not to be confused with “hyper” which is how she typically is. “Pipes” loves the water and snow and will retrieve until she passes out. She is going to be a fine addition to the duck blind next season.
GOT YOU COVERED – Like most guys I love a good ball cap and am typically wearing one. My collection is impressive.. From old fighter squadron hats from my Air Force Reserve days to worn out, sun faded Ross and Trout Bum 2 hats I have quite a few. Favorites: Kansas City Royals New Era, brown faded Ross trucker, Patagonia trucker, faded blue Yeti Coolers trucker.
STONEFLIES – A box of them actually, is where my wife’s engagement ring was nestled while we drove to the bottom of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. In between landed fish and the sunlight disappearing from the canyon walls, I asked my best friend and fishing companion to marry me. After responding YES we waded to the river bank to put her new bling on. As I like to say “I didn’t get down on one knee because we were already knee deep! “ The “YES” was soon following by her putting a 20” hog rainbow into the net, it was the end of an amazing day.
